After the seventh season failed to capture audience’s imaginations, fans of the AMC zombie show are hoping to have a decidedly more gripping adventure.

The programme’s boss has spoken out about the new series, teasing: “We’ll see characters affect one another that we haven’t seen affect one another before, or even just thrown together that we haven’t seen thrown together. It’s been really satisfying.”

The upcoming premiere episode will also mark the show’s 100th ever episode, as well as a shift for how the stories will be told.

Most episodes have focussed on one character, or one group, something that Gimple is keen to move away from as All Out War begins.

“Because of the narrative that we’re following, the story this season is really spread out among all of the characters,” the 46-year-old explained to TV Line.

Gimple added: “And the story shifts quite a bit in single episodes between lots of different characters on a consistent basis, which is a little more unusual for the show.”

This follows an exciting synopsis that was released alongside some exclusive first-look photos.

The teaser read: “Up until now, survival has been the focus of Rick and our group, but it’s not enough. They have to fight to take back their freedom so that they can live. So that they can rebuild.

“As with any battle, there will be losses. Casualties. But with Rick leading the Alexandrian forces, Maggie leading the Hilltop, and King Ezekiel leading the Kingdom – Negan and the Saviors’ grip on this world may finally be coming to an end.

The Walking Dead season eight starts on October 22 in the US and will be aired on FOX UK the following day.
