Real Madrid have a long-standing interest in him, with Zinedine Zidane not completely sold on Keylor Navas.
A deal to take him back to Spain collapsed two years ago on a deadline day.
The 27-year-old still has two years left to run on his current Old Trafford deal, but that won’t stop Real going in for him again.
De Gea’s latest comments would suggest his heart is still firmly in Manchester, which in turn would deal a potentially crushing blow to Real Madrid.
“I think that the players who leave Spain are not paid as much attention as those who stay in Spain and people forget about us a little,” he said.
“The English culture cares for and loves its players a lot.”
De Gea meanwhile, also reserved special praise for his international compatriot Kepa Arrizabalaga, who has found himself linked to Arsenal.
He added: “Kepa is still very young, he has a long career ahead of him.
“His head is very settled but he must keep growing. When training with him, you realise his level and that he is a great goalkeeper.
“I’m young too, we are both here and, with Pepe (Reina), we always arrive at the national team with the greatest enthusiasm to help the side.”
United return to Premier League action against Newcastle on Saturday (5.30pm).
