Juventus vs Tottenham LIVE updates: Latest Champions League scores

57: Douglas Costa plays a ball over the top to Gonzalo Higuain, but his layoff to Bernardeschi is blocked.

Bernardeschi is involved again a minute later. He cuts inside and sees a curling effort pushed wide by Lloris.

BASEL 0-4 MANCHESTER CITY – GUNDOGAN

55: They say 4-0 is the most dangerous scoreline in football. They don’t, but how else can I make this one sound exciting?! Walkover complete as Ilkay Gundogan score a belter from distance.

54: Pause in play while Mandzukic receives treatment. Looks like he’s pinged a hammy to me. Not that I’m a doctor or anything.

51: Juve’s confidence has completely evaporated. Allegri is asking his side to push forward more but they seem petrified of doing so.

48: Serge Aurier booked for a silly challenge, a yellow card that rules him out of the return fixture. Juve are gutted.

JUVENTUS 2-1 TOTTENHAM

45: We’re back underway folks. No changes for either side but it looks like Juventus are going to press higher now.

Glenn: Need to carry on as we did in 1st half but restrain our CB’s + Dier committing too high up the pitch we can get back in to this they’re there for the taking if we keep our heads.

Tahir: Sloppy start but we have forced our way back in the game and have been very good. Players need to calm down and not let the occasion get to them. Give it another 15 mins and I think we need to give Son a run at their defence.

Abby: No idea what we are doing at the back tonight, big let off with the 2nd pen. On a positive note, we’ve made Juve look vulnerable and been on top for the last half hour. Kane should have had two and gaps appearing in the middle.

JUVENTUS 2-1 TOTTENHAM

HT: An incredible first half comes to a close. Juventus blew Tottenham away with two Gonzalo Higuain goals in the opening eight minutes, but the visitors showed their steel and Harry Kane’s goal was no less than they deserved.

Big let-off with Higuain’s penalty miss. Can Spurs capitalise?

JUVENTUS 2-1 TOTTENHAM – MISSED PENALTY

46: Scenes. Gonzalo Higuain is virtually in tears as he smashes his second penalty of the evening against the crossbar.

Serge Aurier was the culprit for conceding the penalty having made a clumsy challenge on Douglas Costa.

That really could be a match-defining moment. All Spurs’ hard work was nearly undone.

45: I really don’t know what’s happened to Juventus. Yes, Spurs have been brilliant in the last 20 minutes, but it’s almost like Juventus didn’t know what to do when they went 2-0 up.

Benatia booked for a foul on Kane. Frustration setting in.

43: They’ve got to be scored. Dele Alli hangs in the air for what seems like an eternity before nodding over from six-yards out.

41: Bullet! Eriksen rifles a 25-yard rocket at Buffon, who is forced to parry it away and scramble clear the rebound.

38: Things are looking up for the visitors. The Juventus fans are getting agitated at seeing their side have almost no possession. Spurs dictating everything as they look for an equaliser before the break.

37: Harry Kane has equalled the record for the most goals scored by an English player in a single Champions League season (7), level with Steven Gerrard in 2008-09.

JUVENTUS 2-1 TOTTENHAM – KANE

35: Boom! Spurs are back in it, and guess who’s got the goal? Yes, Sir Harrold of Kane.

Dele Alli plays a brilliant ball through the middle and Kane rounds Buffon before slotting into an empty net.

That’s the first goal Juventus have conceded in any game in 2018.

34: Another chances comes and goes for Tottenham. Kane gets the ball at the corner of the box and Buffon tips his low effort wide.

There are encouraging signs for the visitors, who are being allowed the bulk of possession. It’s almost like Juventus are saying: “Go on, break us down.”

31: Almost a first-half hat-trick for Higuain. Pjanic and Higuain break at speed and after a neat one-two, the Argentine sends Vertonghen to the shops before curling narrowly wide.

29: Christian Eriksen fires wide following a free-kick on the edge of the box.

27: Buffon, at the tender age of 40, has just made a spectacular save from Kane. Eriksen finds him with a beautiful ball over the top but the striker’s header is stopped.

Juventus vs Tottenham LIVE updates: Latest Champions League scores

25: Almost redemption for Ben Davies, who knocks a great cross into the six-yard box on the volley. Harry Kane looks to divert it goalwards but Chiellini is there to make the block.

BASEL 0-3 MANCHESTER CITY – AGUERO

23: Shall we bother playing the remaining 140 minutes? Sergio Aguero makes it three with a superb strike from 20 yards.

Aguero has scored in all four of his Champions League away appearances so far this season for Manchester City – Dwight Yorke is the only other player to do this for an English side in the competition (for Man Utd in 1998/99).

21: Dele Alli breaks and Harry Kane is in acres of space but the midfielder can’t quite bend the ball around Chiellini. De Sciglio then nods a cross out for a corner, which Chiellini clears like a Salmon. Could be writing that a few times tonight…

BASEL 0-2 MANCHESTER CITY – SILVA

18: No messing around from Pep Guardiola’s side. This is ruthless. Bernardo Silva arrives at the back post to convert Raheem Sterling’s pass.

17: Penalty appeal! Harry Kane wants a spot-kick after Benatia trundles into the back of him. Looked like a dive from the England international there. Lucky to escape a booking.

BASEL 0-1 MANCHESTER CITY – GUNDOGAN

14: No such problems for Manchester City over in Switzerland. Ilkay Gundogan opens the scoring with a great header to score from Kevin de Bruyne’s corner.

15: A quick message from Paddy Power: “Fair play to Spurs. They had big shoes to fill, with Arsenal’s annual second round humiliation missing from the Champions League this year. But they’ve gone to Turin and bottled it right from the first whistle, all for our entertainment. Fair play.”

Bit harsh.

12: Spurs are doing their best to settle things down with some passing around the back but there’s nothing penetrating about it. Juventus happy to concede possession and sit deep.

JUVENTUS 2-0 TOTTENHAM – HIGUAIN (PEN)

9: Ouch. This is bleak.

Ben Davies gives away a stonewall penally when booting Bernardeschi six-feet in the air.

Gonzalo Higuain plants the ball down and converts via a slight touch from Hugo Lloris.

Juventus vs Tottenham LIVE updates: Latest Champions League scoresGETTY

Juventus vs Tottenham LIVE updates: Latest Champions League scores

7: So Juventus haven’t conceded in their last seven games in all competitions. Sir Harry Kane will have to change that to give the visitors a crucial away goal.

4: Right, so Plan A to keep things tight for the first half has gone down the toilet. What’s next for Spurs? They’ve got to score tonight.

JUVENTUS 1-0 TOTTENHAM – HIGUAIN

2: Worst possible start for Tottenham as Juventus take the lead inside two minutes.

Spurs are caught cold from that free-kick I mentioned before. Pjanic takes it quickly and delivers a dinked ball forward to Gonzalo Higuaín, who lashes home on the volley. Quality goal.

1: Pjanic showing Alli how a dive should be executed. The midfielder wins a free-kick for his side just outside the Spurs penalty area.

JUVENTUS 0-0 TOTTENHAM

1: Not often you see goalkeeper captains for both teams. Lloris and Buffon shake hands and we’re underway! The Manchester City game is also underway and I’ll keep you updated with the goals as they go in.

TWO-MINUTE WARNING

19:43: We’re almost underway folks. I’ve just burst a few ear drums with my rendition of the Champions League song. They love it really.

Surely Spurs would take a draw this evening? Even a 2-1 defeat with an away goals would be alright.

How bloody ambitious am I?!

POCH ON JUVE

19:35: Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino: “I think Juventus is a massive club, we cannot compare ourselves with them. In their history they have won everything. We have a nice project at Tottenham but it’s impossible to compare with the history, of course our dream is to reach the level of Juventus.”

KANE ON CHIELLINI

19:33: Tottenham star Harry Kane: “Chiellini is an amazing defender, in my first start for England it was a tough battle against him and a good introduction to international football, we know how good their defence is and I’m looking forward to the challenge of coming up against them.”

LAMELA CURSE

19:30: Erik Lamela doesn’t like playing Juventus. He visited the Serie A champions on three occasions with Roma and lost all three by an aggregate score of 11-1…

KANE vs THE WALL

19:25: By far the most compelling duel of this contest will take place between Harry Kane, the most feared striker in Europe right now, and Giorgio Chiellini, the most tenacious centre-half.

Chiellini hit Kane with a thundering tackle just two minutes into the striker’s full England debut three years ago and this will be their first meeting since.

Juventus have conceded only one goal in their last 16 games and, even if Kane gets past Chiellini, he has Gianluigi Buffon to beat. This may be Kane’s stiffest examination yet.

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Lew: Son more impactful as a sub, Lamela’s been sharp and has the experience of Italian football. Not feeling nervous as we’re the massive underdogs.

Greg: Strong starting XI and nice to have the options of Son and Lucas Moura on the bench. Juve’s back line will take some quality to unlock, but I back the lads to get it done today. Come on you Spurs!

Si: When we win tonight and we ensure the world knows our Madrid results were no fluke – Poch will be the most sought after manager on the planet.

DO THE MATHS…

19:15: Juventus are unbeaten in their last 22 Champions League home games. Now pair that with the fact they’ve only scored seven goals in their six group stage games this season.

What does that equal? I think it probably means we’re looking a game of few goals folks.

STICK OR TWIST?

19:10: Tottenham have enjoyed great success in Europe this season with a more cautious approach to away fixtures and Pochettino must decide whether to be guided by his more attacking, high-pressing instincts or once again adopt a more pragmatic approach.

The latter strategy yielded four points away to Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund in the group stage and a draw at the Allianz Stadium, preferably with an away goal, could prove a tie-winning result.

My advice? Switch the settings to All-Out Attack. I don’t often win on Football Manager…

WHAT’S UP WITH TOBY?

19:05: Alderweireld’s fitness is becoming something of an issue, with the Belgian left out of the travelling party to Turin, after being similarly snubbed for Saturday’s north London derby win over Arsenal.

Alderweireld missed 14 weeks with a hamstring injury and Spurs have high standards when it comes to assessing whether a player is ready for competitive action.

But Alderweireld, whose future remains uncertain as contract talks ramble on, spoke positively after playing 90 minutes against Newport in the FA Cup last week and missing arguably Tottenham’s biggest match this season is not a good sign.

I’ve read rumours that he’s off to Manchester United…

BIG MONIES…

18:55: I know it’s not Champions League news, but I thought you’d like to know the breaking news.

The rights to show Premier League games from 2019-2022 have been sold for £4.464bn.

Sky Sports won the rights to four packages, which is 128 live matches, while BT Sport have one (32 games).

Now, there are still two packages remaining. Shall we have a whip round and buy one? I’ll start the bidding at 0.32 pence.

Matthew: I’ll be honest, I’m not massively confident for tonight but I know we can get a result if we turn up.

Andy: Erik Lamela earns a start after his brilliant NLD performance. We now have Lucas Son and Wanyama on the bench. What a difference a few months makes!

Kieran: Lamela, interesting. Cannot wait for this, so nervous. Need to play perfectly and be tactically spot on to nick a goal and a draw to take back to Wembley.

TEAM NEWS – TOTTENHAM

18:45: Right, let’s have a closer look at Mauricio Pochettino’s starting XI.

The Argentine has made two changes for tonight’s Champions League tie with Erik Lamela and Serge Aurier replacing Kieran Trippier and Son.

Bit harsh on Sonny, he’s been pretty consistent for the north London side. He’s on the bench but there’s no sign of Fernando Llorente, who is out of the matchday squad completely.

January signing Lucas Moura has been named on the bench having not played any part in the 1-0 win over Arsenal on Saturday.

THE CHAMPIONSSSSS!

18:30: Welcome to our LIVE coverage of Juventus vs Tottenham.

It’s been a while since I screamed the Champions League theme at the top of my lungs.

Highly refreshing, but the guys in the office didn’t appreciate it…

Anyway, we’re here to follow Tottenham’s European adventure which tonight takes them to Turin for the first leg of the Champions League last 16.

Let’s get going!

JUVENTUS vs TOTTENHAM

Tottenham will be without Toby Alderweireld for tonight’s Champions League clash with Juventus.

Alderweireld has not travelled to Turin as he continues to regain fitness following three months out with a hamstring injury.

Otherwise, boss Mauricio Pochettino has a full squad to choose from for the first leg of the last 16. Victor Wanyama could come in to bolster the midfield.

BASEL vs MANCHESTER CITY

Leroy Sane could make a dramatic return from injury for Manchester City’s Champions League game at Basel.

The German winger has made a rapid recovery from ankle ligament damage that was expected to sideline him for another month and he has travelled with the squad to Switzerland.

Playmaker David Silva and left-back Fabian Delph are also back in contention after respective hip and knee problems but there could be a doubt over defender Aymeric Laporte, who did not take a full part in training yesterday.
