Hazard has been linked with a move to Real Madrid for the last few transfer windows and this one is no different.
The Chelsea forward has so far stalled over a new contract at Stamford Bridge, along with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois who is also wanted by Real.
Merson believes the signing of Ross Barkley from Everton for £15million earlier this month is great business for Chelsea.
He claims Barkley will be the replacement for Hazard when he moves to the Bernabeu at the end of the season.
“I’m a big fan of Ross Barkley,” the former Arsenal forward and Chelsea fan said on Sky Sports News.
“I think he divides everybody but I’m a big fan. I think it’s great business for Chelsea.
“I think Hazard plays for Real Madrid next season, I do.
“And if you get Ross Barkley now for £15m, which is a cup of tea in this day and age football-wise, and you go and sell Hazard for £100m in the summer, because Real Madrid will have to buy big in the summer. They’re a million miles away, so they’ll come big.
“Eden Hazard’s probably one of the best around in the business and they get Ross Barkley to take his place, works under him for six months, watches him, watches the way Chelsea play.
“Then they don’t have to go out and buy someone for £70m.
“If they sell Hazard for £100m and someone’s after someone and Chelsea have got £100m, someone’s going to go ‘well we want £70m for him. You’ve got £100m so we want £70m’.
“They’ve just go him (Barkley) for nothing, I think it’s great business, I really do.
