The incident occurred between Junction 2 and 3 and is affecting eastbound traffic.
Photos taken at the scene appear to show a large amount of debris on the road.
One video shows a cascade of brown liquid flowing down a hill and onto the road.
A woman in the background can be heard saying: “Ohh….. that is so f*****g bad. Put your window up!”
One Twitter user shared a video of the cascade and wrote: “Loud explosion/bang just thought it was a lorry tyre on M2 then saw this”
The AA said: “Two lanes closed and slow traffic on M2 Eastbound between J2 A228 Sundridge Hill and J3 A229.
“Highways and Police had temporarily halted the traffic in both directions to deal with a large volume of debris caused by a landslide.
“There is now road management in place to help clear the debris on E/B carriageway only.”
